The Travails of a Pillion Rider is the sum of many not-so-common and distinctive experiences. The three diaries (Cultural, Coastal, Camping), through the eyes of a pillion rider, showcase a combination of expeditions and travelogues that help us to understand our environment through modern science and ancient knowledge.
This book by Author Dr Rajani Rao, who has a doctorate in Environmental Philosophy,
is for travel enthusiasts who want to live life on their own terms, who care about their environment and are ready to don a new avatar.
An inquisitive road map to India.
Every diary has a hidden message.
Take Cultural Diaries for instance it presents four unassuming trips connecting the dots to unravel ancient environmental knowledge. The deep learnings from Ramayanas and Vedas on protecting the environment first.
Coastal Diaries is a unique, unparalleled 52-days bike expedition covering 11,600 kms from Lakhpat to the Sunderbans Islands. Cruising the necklace of India - Bharat Mala, two friends ride from beach to beach spreading the message of ‘not to misuse plastic’ and it’s related issues.
Camping Diaries chronicles four special expeditions exploring the northern tip of India to Ladakh by riding pillion and cycling to the southern tip of Kanyakumari, both journeys starting in Bengaluru. This is followed by driving back-up for cyclists on a Western Ghats expedition and participating in a coracle odyssey on the Sharavati river. Interestingly, each travelogue is intertwined with knowledge from ancient environmental texts.
A fun film to promote the book.
